About me

Experienced educator with a background in English, reading and literacy, writing, life skills, and financial literacy. I believe every student can grow when provided with clear instruction, consistent structure, meaningful practice, and encouragement. My lessons are organized around each student's individual needs. I begin by identifying what the student already understands, where support is needed, and what we want to accomplish during the lesson. I explain and model the skill, work through examples with the student, provide guided practice, and then give the student an opportunity to demonstrate understanding independently. I use discussion, questioning, real world examples, reading and writing activities, and practical applications to keep learning engaging and relevant. I do more than help students complete assignments. I want students to understand what they are learning, why it matters, and how to apply the skill independently. In English and literacy, I support reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, writing, critical thinking, and communication. In financial literacy and life skills, I help students understand budgeting, saving, responsible money management, goal setting, decision making, and preparation for adulthood. My teaching approach is patient, encouraging, organized, and adaptable. When a student struggles, I break the concept into manageable steps, provide additional examples, and build upon each success. I maintain high expectations while creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning from mistakes. At the end of each lesson, I check for understanding, review progress, and identify what we should strengthen next. My goal is for students to leave each session with greater knowledge, stronger skills, increased confidence, and the ability to become more independent learners. I want students to succeed academically, but I also want them to develop skills they can use moving forward in life.
