About me

Hello! I’m Toshi, a native Japanese tutor based in Los Angeles, California, USA, with over 22 years of teaching experience. I provide personalized, structured, and encouraging lessons for children, teenagers, and adults at all levels—from complete beginners to advanced learners. My lessons are customized to each student’s goals and learning style. I can help you with conversation, pronunciation, grammar, reading, writing, kanji, Japanese culture, travel Japanese, business Japanese, and JLPT preparation from N5 through N1. I am a certified member of the National Tutoring Association and have passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test administered by the Japanese Language Teaching Association. I have also contributed to Google’s Japanese Voice Search project and have experience teaching students through a Microsoft tutoring program. I have successfully worked with students with different learning needs, including autism, ADHD, and visual impairments. I believe that patience, trust, clear explanations, and practical communication are essential for successful language learning.
