Hi! I'm a writer, educator, and experienced English tutor with a passion for helping students become confident, capable, and enthusiastic communicators. I hold an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Columbia University and a BA from Hampshire College, and I am in the process of becoming certified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) through Oqfal, an international accreditor. I have over five years of experience providing individualized academic and English-language instruction. At Columbia University, I've taught undergraduate creative writing as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and currently teach literature, academic writing, and creative writing to high school students through the Double Discovery Center. I've also worked extensively as a private English and ESL tutor, supporting students of different ages, backgrounds, and proficiency levels in developing their speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and pronunciation skills. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that learning should be engaging, creative, and deeply personalized. I take the time to understand each student's unique strengths, challenges, interests, and goals, and I design lessons that make learning both accessible and enjoyable. Whether we're working on conversational fluency, tackling a challenging essay, exploring literature, or building foundational English skills, I strive to make every session meaningful and productive. Above all, I aim to create a warm, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and discovering what they're capable of. My goal is not simply to help students improve their English, but to give them the confidence, curiosity, and independence to continue learning long after our sessions end. I look forward to working with you!
