About me
I earned my doctorate degree from Walden University. I have more than 25 years of experience providing academic instructions in elementary education. I am passionate about bringing quality education online, right to the comforts o f your- whether through one-on-one sessions, small groups, or large group settings. I love working with young children because everyday is different, exciting, and fun- especially when everyone comes back for the next session. I enjoy building their skills and self esteem, because it helps them gain confidence as learners.
I specialize in reading and phonics because it helps build vocabulary and language skills that every student needs to succeed in all subjects. I follow reading fluency and comprehension activities with writing to build memory retention and thinking skills. I also teach the basic foundations of elementary mathematics.
I focus on phonics as well as reading and writing strategies because they make teaching and learning effective, fun, and interactive. My reading/phonics strategies are simple. I model fluent reading and use questioning to support comprehension. I provide ample practice so students can focus on what is being taught and apply what they have learned. At the end of each session, I summarize the new lesson to help students review the relevant content areas. To recognize efforts and accomplishments, I provide plenty of feedback such as good job, very good, thumbs up, high five, etc. I believe that rewards and praises are great reinforcers. I use repetition techniques throughout my lessons because I believe repetition is essential for an effective learning process.
I communicate positively and respectfully with my students, using empathy to support their learning. That being said, I look forward to working with everyone as we explore reading, phonics, writing, and math.
