According to the rules of the order of arithmetic operations, we must first place the multiplication and division exercises inside of parentheses:
We then proceed to solve the exercise inside of the parentheses from left to right:
Which results in the following exercise:
We then finish by solving the exercise from left to right:

\( 8 + 3 \times 2 = \)
Mathematics has specific rules called order of operations (PEMDAS). Division and multiplication are stronger operations that must be done first, just like how you follow traffic rules even if another path seems shorter!
The colon symbol (:) means division, just like the ÷ symbol. So is the same as .
Think of PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication/Division (left to right), Addition/Subtraction (left to right). The M and D come before A and S!
You can add parentheses like to help visualize, but they're not required. The order of operations rules automatically handle this grouping.
Double-check each step! Make sure you did , then , then . Go slowly through each calculation.
