How is the commission calculated, and what should I know?

Updated Oct 11, 2026

The commission is 20% of the price of every lesson delivered to a student (or any other tutoring service you provide to the student).

Every lesson held with a student who came through the platform must be reported in your calendar, this is especially important for follow-up lessons.

You only pay for lessons you actually deliver to students who contacted you through the platform.

You can receive payment for a lesson directly from the student (e.g., cash, bank transfer, or a mobile payment app): (See: Receiving payment directly from students)

Or by card, processed through PayPal: (See: Receiving card payments from students)

To ensure the commission is calculated correctly and accurately, it's important to report all lessons that take place in your calendar, and to report the exact amount you actually received from the student(s) for each lesson.

Why 20%?

In setting the commission rate, we aimed to strike a balance, a rate that isn't too high for tutors, but that still lets us provide a high level of service, promote the platform across various channels (bringing in many students who book lessons with you), and, after all that, leaves enough margin for the platform to justify its operation.

Our suggestion is to calculate the amount you'd like to earn per hour after commission, and set your price accordingly, a few dollars more can make the difference. Also, in our experience, many sought-after tutors raise their price gradually as demand grows, and you can always add a little to cover the commission difference.

Frequently asked questions and special cases

Do I pay commission on every lesson delivered to a student? Yes. Every lesson delivered to a student who came to you through the platform is subject to commission.

What if a parent contacts me about more than one child? If a parent contacted you through the platform and asked to book lessons for their children, every lesson held with them, even if it actually took place with one of the children, counts as a lesson booked through the platform, and must be reported accordingly.

Is there a commission on additional services I offer students from the platform? Yes. Any paid service provided to a student who came to you through the platform is subject to a 20% service commission.

What about a group lesson, when a student brings friends along? For a group lesson (such as a student adding friends to the lesson), report the total amount actually received from all participants. The commission is calculated on the full amount.

What if I arranged a package of lessons with a student? If you arranged a lesson package with a student, it's important to enter the package in the calendar with that student and add all the lesson dates in the package.

What if a student keeps booking lessons in other subjects too? Even if the student originally contacted you for lessons in one subject but went on to book more lessons in other subjects, all lessons count as part of the relationship formed through the platform and must be reported accordingly.

What if a student asks to extend or shorten a lesson? If, during a lesson, a student asks to add time (for example, a lesson due to end at 6:00 PM continues until 6:30 PM), or if a lesson is set for longer or shorter than an hour, update the calendar with the actual time and total amount paid for the lesson, so the commission (and your Score) is calculated accordingly.
