How does tutor Score work?

Updated Oct 11, 2026

Your position in the search results is determined by several factors:

The number of teaching hours you've completed with students, relative to the exposure your profile received in search results (repeat lessons with students count too). More teaching hours = a higher Score tier = more students in the future.

Example: Generally, a tutor who has completed 50 teaching hours will climb the Score quickly and appear ahead of a tutor who has completed 30 teaching hours with students on the platform.

In addition, teaching hours are calculated relative to the hourly price listed on your profile versus the price actually reported. In other words, when there's a gap between the profile price and the actual price, the number of teaching hours is calculated accordingly.

Example: A tutor whose profile lists $100 per hour but who reports lessons at $50, each lesson is counted as 50%. So 10 teaching hours reported are counted as 5 hours for Score purposes.

Another example: A tutor whose profile lists $200 per hour but who reports lessons at $150, each lesson is counted proportionally (75%).

Follow-up performance with students, relative to the number of lessons each student requested ("lesson potential realized").

Example: A student contacts a tutor in a certain subject and wants about 10 lessons. The tutor holds 8 lessons with the student. Lesson potential realized here is 80%.

Also, lesson potential realized is not capped. Example: A student wants about 10 lessons; the tutor holds 15 lessons with them. Lesson potential realized here is 150%.

Student reviews on the platform, reflecting how satisfied students were with the lessons.

To ensure that the tutors shown first in search results are the most professional, reliable, and best-matched for students, the Score algorithm is updated and improved frequently.

The Score updates to make sure the tutors leading the results are those who consistently receive positive reviews from satisfied students through the platform, teach follow-up lessons, actually deliver lessons through the platform, and are found to be a good match for students' searches.

It's important to emphasize that the way the Score is calculated can change, and does change from time to time, in line with these principles, with the goal of showing the most suitable, highest-quality tutors at the top.

The "Site Recommended" tag in search results

The "Site Recommended" tag is given only to tutors in the highest Score tiers (Score 8 and above), and reflects a combination of high performance, student satisfaction, and lesson continuity through the platform.

That said, it's important to know:

  • The tag's appearance is limited to a certain number of tutors per search.
  • Not every tutor with a Score of 8 or above will necessarily be shown with the tag in every search.

Whether the tag appears depends on several factors, including:

  • The tutor's Score tier
  • The number of relevant tutors for that search
  • The order in which tutors appear in the search results

So the tag may appear in one search and not in another, even if the tutor meets the Score threshold. The algorithm keeps this limit in place to ensure balanced exposure and to present the most suitable and standout tutors at the top of each specific search.
